Donca Vianu is a psychiatrist and psychotherapist with more than 40 years of clinical experience across different countries and cultures, including 30 years working in the Netherlands.
In the Netherlands, she worked within governmental mental health institutions as well as in private practice. Her psychotherapy training spans a broad range of approaches, with particular emphasis on the treatment of complex PTSD, intergenerational transmission of trauma, cognitive behavioural therapy, gender and relationship issues, and transcultural aspects of mental health.
Donca also works extensively with expanded states of consciousness. Her therapeutic approach draws on Focusing, developed by Eugene Gendlin; hypnotherapy in the tradition of Milton Erickson; and Active Imagination, influenced by the work of Carl G. Jung, Gerald Epstein and Robert Moss. More recently, she has incorporated Regression to Previous Lives, developed by Paul Aurand, and work with the Wheel of Life developed by Daan van Kampenhout.
Alongside psychiatry and psychotherapy, two longstanding areas of interest have shaped her work: spirituality and the arts. Her interest in spirituality led her to study comparative religion and later Buddhist psychology with Zen Master and poet Thich Nhat Hanh.
Her artistic training includes theatre at De Kleine Academie in Brussels, dance and somatic movement at the School for New Dance Development in Amsterdam, and academic study of the scientific foundations of creativity through the Open University in the UK.
This combination of clinical psychiatry, psychotherapy, trauma work, embodied practice, creativity and spirituality gives Donca a broad therapeutic perspective from which she supports people facing a wide range of psychological challenges.
She is particularly known in the Netherlands and Germany for her work as an integration therapist for psychedelic experiences and has been a pioneer in this field for many years.
